About Pashtun Palace
Afghan home cooking from a Lake City kitchen, made for the people who live around it.
Pashtun Palace is the work of Baseerah, who lives and cooks in Lake City, North Seattle. Everything on the menu is made by hand in small batches — the way it would be made at home for guests, because that is exactly how it started.
Find us at the Lake City Farmers Market
Every week during the season you will find us at the Lake City Farmers Market. It is where most of our customers meet us for the first time: a plate of bolani, a cup of doogh, a conversation about how the chutney is made. Regulars now message ahead so their order is bagged and waiting when they arrive.
Local ingredients, Afghan hands
The peppers, jalapeños, onions and potatoes we cook with are sourced from local farms — the same growers who set up a few stalls down from us at the market. Buying that way costs a little more and takes a lot more planning, but you can taste the difference in a bolani filling or a pot of chutney, and the money stays in the community that supports us.
Everything is halal
All of our meat is halal, without exception, and it always will be. No alcohol is used in any recipe or marinade. If you are cooking for a mosque event, an Eid gathering or simply a family that keeps halal, you can order from us without having to ask.
Cooking for your event
Alongside the weekly to-go menu we cater weddings, birthdays, graduations, Eid celebrations, funerals and corporate lunches, from a table of ten to a hall of two hundred. Trays go out hot and labelled, with serving spoons, and we will tell you honestly how much food you actually need — over-ordering helps nobody.
More than food
Baseerah also makes handmade dresses, carpets and custom pieces to order. Traditional Afghan embroidery, made the slow way, for weddings, gifts and homes. If that is what you are here for, get in touch and describe what you have in mind.
Come and eat
Order online for pickup or delivery across North Seattle, request a catering quote, or just come and say salaam at the market. We are glad you are here.
Cooked by hand
Dumplings are folded one at a time. Nothing arrives at our kitchen ready-made.
Halal, always
From the butcher to the plate. We do not run a mixed kitchen and never have.
Local where it counts
Peppers, jalapeños, onions and potatoes from farms a short drive away.

What people tell us afterwards

I have been buying bolani from this stall every Thursday for two years. It has never once been less than excellent, and she remembers that my son does not want the jalapeño.

We fed a hundred and forty people at our walima. The mantu ran out first, which is exactly what I told her would happen and exactly what she told me to order more of. Everything arrived hot, labelled and on time.

We book the office lunch here every month now. Half our team is vegetarian and this is the only caterer who does not treat that as an inconvenience — the veggie trays are as good as the meat ones.

We needed food for a funeral at short notice and were treated with enormous kindness. The trays arrived quietly, set up, and she would not let us pay extra for the trouble.

Ordered for eighty guests two days before Eid, which was unfair of me. She said yes anyway and the Kabuli pulao was the best I have had outside Kabul.

The frozen meals are the reason I stopped ordering takeout on weeknights. Chicken and veggies over the Kabuli rice, twenty minutes, and my kids actually eat it.
